Design Engineer - Job Vacancy

Description
Working within a small design/engineering team to develop new products to suit the compressed air & gas purification markets. Responsibility for product development from concept, through prototype and testing and into manufacture, whilst working within our ISO9001 QMS for product development.

Key Tasks

1. Design and engineering responsibility for new products from concept to manufacture including the support of product testing.

2. Development of Bills of materials and component costing information throughout the process.

3. Involvement in product approvals (CE marking, LVD, EMC & UL)

4. Improvements and cost down programs on existing product to ensure continued market presence and profitability.

5. Technical support for customers, suppliers and development partners as required.

6. Involvement in both standard product development and joint development projects for gas purification applications within the military, aerospace, medical and laboratory industries.

7. Occasional travel to customers and development partners in the UK and overseas.

Required Skills

1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) required. Some electrical experience would also be an advantage.

2. 1-2 years experience working within a design/manufacturing environment, preferably within a related industry.

3. Self motivated with the ability to work on multiple projects, often under pressure and with limited supervision.

4. Attention to detail and a desire to get things right first time.

5. A working knowledge of 3D CAD systems (ideally Solidworks) and an in-depth knowledge of good engineering practice and engineering drawing creation is a must.

6. An understanding of compressed air systems and ASME 8 (pressure vessel code) would be advantageous.

Reporting structure:
Reporting to the Product Design Manager with involvement in regular project meetings where you will report on work load and progress.

Salary - £22-28k depending on experience
Working Hours - 39 hours per week in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear
